Feels like the 4 criteria are kinda outdated for modern cases. How would this apply to things like Taiwan or Kosovo?

@[Andrey Turkin] Dear Andrey. Thank you for your comment. Of course, the four criteria from the Montevideo Convention are still a useful starting point, but they don’t fully match how things work today. For example, Taiwan meets all of them in practice, but its statehood is limited because many countries don’t formally recognize it, mainly due to China. Kosovo is similar: it works like a state in many ways, but is only partly recognized internationally.
In digital statehood, this gap is even bigger. Online communities can now run systems that look like parts of a state, like governance, identity, and economic activity, without needing a physical territory, which challenges the idea that a state must be tied to land.
