Nice breakdown of the jump from a basic CUDA matmul to actual performance thinking. The memory/access patterns part was especially interesting. What optimization made the biggest difference in your case?

@[Daniel Decker] Thanks, Daniel! The biggest improvement came from tiling with shared memory. The naive kernel was repeatedly fetching the same data from global memory, so moving tiles into shared memory allowed threads to reuse that data and reduce memory traffic. That alone gave me around a 1.92× speedup in the 1024³ benchmark. Next, I’m planning to experiment with tile sizes and profiling to see how much further I can push it.

Show moreAI/ML-focused developer interested in building intelligent systems, developer tools, and open-source projects. I enjoy working across machine learning, deep learning, robotics, and software engineering — from training models to building complete applications around them.
Currently exploring LLMs, AI agents, robotics, computer vision, and systems-level development. I’m especially interested in projects that combine AI with practical engineering.
